Enviromental Problem

In the last 40 years, a gradual decrease in rainfall has been recorded (in Thessaly, which uses 1/4 of the country’s total water, the decrease is about 20%). Extreme events such as drought are increasingly frequent (the 10 driest years of the last fifty years were recorded in the last fifteen years).

At the same time, the non-systematic and scientifically documented recording of irrigation needs and monitoring of evapotranspiration leads to the over-pumping of the water table (e.g. in Thessaly in the 1980s the wells pumped at 50-80 meters, today they reach 300-400 meters), to the increase in production costs.

The modern technologies are implemented by the Members and Producer Groups of the project with significant experience in precision agriculture techniques, they involve innovative means and techniques for the rational utilization of water and other inputs with the aim of the sustainability of the means of production and the protection of the environment.
